There was a very large burl that I would see in an area where I traveled. It was one of the first things I checked on after Hurricane Irene, and the storm had taken it down.

A "burl" is an area of the tree that has infection or disease, and forms a scab–like area. This area continues to grow over itself and creates some striking grain.
